Spotlight: TwoKnit

Today we're spanning the generations with the granddaughter-grandmother team of Eve and Martha, better known as TwoKnit. They opened up shop on Etsy as a collaborative effort, featuring pieces they make individually and together, and each contributing their different expertise where needed when it comes to maintaining the shop. I mean really, how cool is that?!

Read on to learn more about how this dynamic duo came to be, what they enjoy in their free time and what the future holds for this talented family. You can also enter to win a beautiful piece from their shop!

Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?
Eve: I grew up and still live in Los Angeles California.
Martha: I grew up in Buenos aires Argentina. Now I live in Los Angeles California.

How long have you been selling on Etsy?
We have been selling on Esty for a little over a year.

How did you develop the partnership that led to your shop?
My grandmother and I have always loved to knit and that created a bond which years later led to the development of our shop.

Who does what when it comes to creating and shop keeping?
The shop is mostly run by Martha, but I do create a few things now and again. I work together with my grandmother to come up with ideas for items and help photograph and model the pieces. Martha does a lot of the keeping of the shop.

How do you spend your days when you are not creating for your shop? (both answer)
Eve: I am in the eleventh grade and when not doing homework I love drawing, writing, deciphering the TV show Lost, reading and photography. I also love acting. I am in the school play every year. I attend Shakespeare camp during the summer and have been going to this camp since I was in second grade.
Martha: I spend my free time in my garden and I'm volunteer for Operation Gratitude who is a Non Profit Organization sending packages to the Soldiers.

What, if any, formal training have you had in your craft?
Eve: I have had knitting and sewing classes at my school since 1st grade.
Martha: I started knittind as a hobby and later on I open a Knitting Boutique in Buenos Aires selling and designing crochet and knitting clothes. I also worked at a Knitting Boutique in Beverly Hills for clientele such as Ali MacGraw and Natalie Wood.

What made you decide to open up shop on Etsy?
My mother, Roxana of Illuminated Perfume, opened an Etsy shop and we thought it would be fun to start one of our own. Since we both love to knit, it was something we could do together.

Where did your shop name come from?
I really love puns and I wanted a witty name for our shop. I also adore Shakespeare and one day when brainstorming, a quote from Hamlet popped into my mind. "To be or not to be, that is the question." I instantly thought "Two knit or knot to knit" because there are two of us, who knit. We shortened it to "Two Knit."

Do you have any advice for other sellers on Etsy or those thinking about pursuing their craft?
My advise is to have really nice, clear pictures and to promote yourself.

Etsy Shops you love
Eve:
There are so many lovely shops on Etsy, but my favorites are:
Spider in Your Bath
The Vamoose
Clever Nettle
Lula Layelle

Martha:
Nevousinstallezpas
Alibli
Vaisto
Yalonetski
Yellowfield7

Where is the coolest place you have ever been?
Eve: I absolutely loved getting to visit Vancouver Canada. It was such a beautiful city, the food is great and everyone was so lovely. It's like a metropolitan city, yet feels very comfortable. I'd really like to go again some day, I'd even consider living there.

Share some of your favorite music
Eve: There is so much great music out there. Some of my favorite artists are: A Fine Frenzy, Feist, Beck, Cat Power and Regina Spektor. I also really like listening to soundtracks such as Atonement, Becoming Jane, Finding Neverland and Pride and Prejudice.

What would you like to learn next?
Eve: I really want to learn to play the piano. It may not be a big hurdle, but I've always loved the way the piano sounds. I think its so beautiful and conveys emotion like no other instrument.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you?
Eve: I'd want someone to play me, who resembled me and was also a good actor. I think my first choice would be Evangeline Lily, because I love her on Lost and people always say I look like her. I also think Rebecca Hall could play me. In a way I see myself looking like her when I'm older. But who knows, maybe by the time I'm old enough to have a film made about my life some new actress will come along whose even better!

What does the future hold for you and your shop?
Martha: I 'll keep designing, knitting and crocheting even if the sales are not great because it is my passion and hobby.
Eve: Even though I'm going off to college in a couple of years, I'd still love to be apart of the shop, by contributing ideas and such.

The TwoKnit crew is amazing! I think their creations + shop photos are magical.

From what I've been told, all the proceeds go to Eve's higher education, which makes their shop even more special! (Hope I am remembering correctly!)
