One White Bowl | Four Easy Centerpieces

Hello! Dennice of fringe here with this month's home décor feature. Thank you for stopping by, I’m so glad you’re here!

My goal for this post is to inspire you to use items you already have around the house or growing in your garden, as décor elements. I find it most satisfying when I can add a flourish of style to my home without spending a dime. This is why I’m a big believer in moving the furniture around and moving accessories from room to room as a way to freshen a stale space. It works every time for me.

I have a large white bowl on my kitchen table. I found it at my favorite little treasure shop last year and paid $12 for it. It has marks of age and use on it, which makes it perfect for me. It serves many purposes, but mostly it’s a vessel for a variety of centerpieces. Here are four examples of what I’ve used it for in the past couple of weeks.

DISPLAY 1: POSY PERFECTION

What you’ll need: Flowers, water.

These beautiful blossoms just happened to be what was blooming at that moment in my backyard. You can customize this display to work with what you have. It could be monochromatic with just white flowers, for instance, or vibrant in an array of colors. You could float one large leaf or flower, or lots of tiny flowers. Whatever appeals to you’re style. The options are endless.

DISPLAY 2: BEACH BEAUTY

What you’ll need: Sand, candles, beach rocks, driftwood.

I always have these items on hand. You can arrange them in any fashion you like, and the end result will always be lovely. The candles add romance for a special dinner party or dinner with your special someone. This theme can be turned into a forest theme using moss and bark and pine branches, for example. A mountain theme can be attained with pine cones and rugged rocks. See what you have on hand and have some fun with it!

DISPLAY 3: HERBAL AROMATICS

What you’ll need: One or more herbs.

I have a wonderful little herb garden. They’re quite simple to grow. Even without the yard space, one could have a collection of herbs growing on the kitchen window sill or counter. Our rosemary plant is very large so I decided it needed a trim. The cuttings were to be dried out and used in the kitchen. I just dropped those cuttings in my large white bowl to dry out, and viola! Instant aromatic centerpiece. I love the way the branches hang over one side of the bowl, so beautiful. I have also made a potpourri of a variety of herbs and set them in the bowl. It looks completely gorgeous and smells heavenly.

DISPLAY 4: COLLECTIONS

What you’ll need:
Lots of corks.

We save corks. Once we have a few saved up, we send them to our cork artist friend for her creations. This display is simply that group of corks. You can use anything you want though. I’ve used keys, buttons, shells, old wooden spools, photos and postcards…Again, it’s whatever you have on hand and love to look at.

· · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · ·

I hope these examples encourage you to get your creative juices flowing and use what you have on hand for fresh, artistic décor. The options are endless. Look around your home and garden. You may be surprised at how many décor ideas come to mind. Perhaps you’ll have a bowl in every room…

All wonderful ideas Dennice- am especially fond of #4 and if people are not saving them for a cork artist (ha!) they can write the dates on them and they become little mementos. I also especially love the beach scene- great post!

Hello! My friend Amanda Daniel recommended your blog to me! I really enjoyed it today, and when I ran across this post it reminded me about a post I did a few days ago! I found a great way to recycle that bowl of corks! After you've gathered 15 pounds of cork, go to www.recork.org and they will send you a postage paid label and you can send the corks in to be recycled into corkboards, shoes, etc. ! I just thought I'd share. Have a great day!
