Holly day greetings to each of you from this little house nestled in the woodland. Since we are in the midst of holiday celebrations I thought we would visit some of the scents of the season for todays journey into the world of aromatics.
The aromas I most often relate to this festive time of the year are gourmand notes like vanilla and spice, the smell of Christmas trees and wood burning in a fireplace. As I contemplated a post for this monthly contribution I thought to do something with peppermint, evergreens or spice. I finally settled on cinnamon because I saw potential in the tube like shapes of the sticks.

After pondering the bark, I settled on the idea of creating a star as a scented hanging ornament for a window or door.
Materials
Fifteen cinnamon sticks which have a hole that goes all the way through.
Sturdy string or twine
Long threading needle
Optional: Glue gun

I began by stringing the fifteen sticks of cinnamon, as if you are making a necklace. Be sure to secure the end of the thread so that all your sticks don’t fall off as you work.
Once threaded, I arranged the bark into a star shape. I then took the rest of the train of bark back through the inside of the star shape. At this point tie each connection together.

As I was meticulously tying, the threads began breaking and I realized that I had used an old, vintage thread that was not strong enough for the task. Thus, I decided to shift my course and used a glue gun with copper colored wax to fasten each stick to each other.

First I created triangles by placing one bead of glue to adhere each stick together. I then took each of the triangles and glued them all together to form my star.

Due to my little fiasco you now have two ways to make this craft. Personally I like the look of the first path better and that fact that there is much more use of the hands. However, for those who don’t have the greatest skills and are low on time the alternate solution with the glue stick might be better.

Once the star is finished you can hang it as is or further embellish it. We intend on embellishing ours with some moss.
Wishing each of you a very bright and festive holiday, see you again next month as we once again venture on an aromatic journey in the New Year. Cheers!
